A typical work week at NBC for an episode of Mad About You
Thanks to Mikhail for letting me use this!
Monday - Table read
After the writers have written the basic draft for the show, all the people and cast involved would sit down around a table look through the script and "read". This would give the writers an account of how the show would be represented by the cast. This would also give the cast a taste of what is going to be install from them in the up comming week. As the writers say, sometimes what they had orginally thought to be very funny turns out otherwise when read. And other times, what was thought to be not so funny would end up being a "crack up" when the cast puts the script through it's paces. Any probelms that come up like an uncompatable line, would be noted and the changes scheduled. Other personnel involved like the technical crews will also be present to "walk" through the shots.
Mid-Week - Rehersal
After the table read, its time for rehersal. This involves the cast acting out their parts, and at the same time remembering their lines. The rehersal would reveal any incompatablilty of the cast and the surroundings and also, provide the cast with valuable time and ability to learn and remember their lines and actions. Again, any problems with the lines or scene are noted and changed. Rehersal also provides some of the things that come out naturally, in this, the cast or the scene may actually come up with something different that may be incorperated into the finalised script.
Thursday - Camara positioning
During this day, the techinal crew is involved in the rehersal and the director would try to position the camaras to the positions that is wanted. All the positions of the 4 camaras in every shot is tried and then marked. While all this is being done, the cast and writers are doing their final touch up on the script and actions. All this adds up to the pressure in the knowledge that tommorrow is shownight and everything must be ready.
Friday - Showtime
The day that everybody has been preparing for has arrived! This is the night that the show is actually taped and all this in front of a live studio audience. It begins simply enough, all the audience are brought to the seats and the cast slowly arrives and are introduced to the audience. And after this, the fun really begins. The show is brought through it's paces and the cast acts their wits out, and all this continues until the director calls "CUT". And another Mad About You episode is made............
If there are any mistakes in the facts, please let me know.
